Net Revenue
Gross revenue minus returns, refunds, chargebacks, and discounts.
Definition
Net revenue is what you actually keep after accounting for all revenue deductions — returns, refunds, chargebacks, and promotional discounts. It is the true revenue figure that matters for profitability calculations.
Why It Matters for Shopify Brands
Many brands focus on gross revenue while ignoring the ops-driven deductions that erode it. A brand with 25% return rates and 2% chargeback rates may have net revenue 30%+ below their gross sales figure.
Benchmarks
Healthy net revenue as a percentage of gross: 85–95% for most categories. Below 80% indicates significant ops issues — high returns, chargebacks, or excessive discounting.
